If you're running Git on Linux, Git will automatically update whenever you apply a system update. Once it's done, Git will update.Īlternatively, you can go to Git's download portal and get the latest installer. If you are not using the latest version of Homebrew, Homebrew will be updated first. With Homebrew installed, run this command in Terminal to update Git: new upgrade git

Chances are you already have Homebrew installed if you're using Git on your Mac, but if not, you can install Homebrew by running this command and following the instructions in Terminal: /bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL )" You can update Terminal Git on Mac using Homebrew, a popular package manager for Mac. If you are using a version earlier than 2.14.2, you will need to get the latest installer for download portal and update your version of Git in the same way as when you first installed Git. Regardless of which command you need to use, your version of Git will be updated or you will get a message saying you are up to date if you are already using the latest version. If you are using any version later than 2.16.1, you will need to run this command: git update-git-for-windows
